In a recent announcement, FMCSA Associate Administrator William Quade said that FMCSA is anticipating a delay of the June 22nd deadline due to the hack of the National Registry website last December.
Components of the June 22nd deadline included the electronic transmission of medical certificate information of CDL drivers to State Driver's Licensing Agencies to be used thru the CDLIS system. This would have ended the CME's requirement to issue a medical examiner's certificate to the driver. With this delay, CMEs will be required to continue provide drivers with a medical examiner's certificate for the driver to submit to their State's Driving Licensing Agency.
Because Non-CDL driver information is not part of the CDLIS system, the June 22nd deadline did not remove the requirement for CMEs to provide non-CDL drivers a medical certificate. CMEs will be required to provide a medical examiner certificate to non-CDL drivers unless a new FMCSA regulation is passed to remove that requirement.
The delay is related to the December hacking of the National Registry website.
There is no additional information regarding when the NRCME website will be restored. The last FMCSA comment was that there was no schedule or timetable in place for when the website will be restored.
